Agora que já passaram uns dias sobre o 5 de Outubro e os espíritos estão mais calmos, eu, que sou republicano, esclareça-se, deixo aqui um argumento a favor da monarquia capaz de perturbar republicanos convictos.
Escreveu-o Ted Hughes, e intitula-se "The Dream of the Lion". Eis os versos iniciais:
"It was an ancient Land. The Land of the Lion.
New to the earth, each creature woke,
Licked awake to speak, and spoke
The mother-tongue, the rough tongue of the Lion.
Where was this Land? The Land belonged to the Lion.
Not to the Mare, the chalk-hill's flower.
Not to the Raven in the Tower.
The eye that opened the mind was the eye of the Lion.
Wild Dog, Hyena, Wolf, maned as a Lion,
Rolled on her back, and motherly smiled,
Sucking the Lion's human child
Under the lifted, golden eye of the Lion.
