A propósito desse sorriso no seu auto-retrato, escreve Laura Cumming:
"... a portraitist for whom the life and soul of human being, and most especially himself, are quite naturally expressed in the smile. La Tour has no qualms about smiling, never worries that it might be thought frivolous or conceited. Where other artists make heavy weather of portraying themselves, he takes the task lightly and seems to have produced more glad-faced self-portraits than any other artist." (in A Face to the World, p. 159)

  1. "Smile though your heart is aching
    Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky,
    You'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow."

    Valha-nos Nat King Cole...

    Abraço.
